China's first large-scale deepwater oil and gas equipment construction

The signing ceremony of the contract for the construction of the deep-water semi-submersible drilling platform of China National Offshore Oil Corporation was held in Beijing a few days ago, indicating that China’s first deep-water super-large oil and gas drilling equipment was officially launched.

The platform belongs to the sixth-generation offshore semi-submersible drilling platform in the world and represents the advanced level of the world's drilling platform. Its maximum operating depth is 3,000 meters and its maximum drilling depth is 12,000 meters. Due to the need to perform high-precision long-distance drilling operations in harsh sea conditions away from land, the platform is equipped with today's most advanced drilling equipment and satellite navigation and positioning systems.

At present, the exploration and development of deep-water reservoirs has become a hot spot for investment by multinational oil companies in the world. CNOOC also regards deep-water exploration as one of the main directions for the future. In 2006, CNOOC deep-water exploration achieved a major breakthrough. Liwan 3-1 large-scale deep-sea natural gas fields were discovered at a depth of 1,500 meters in the Pearl River Mouth Basin. CNOOC decided that it will invest 15 billion yuan in the next few years to develop large deepwater equipment such as deepwater drilling platforms. The deep water drilling platform signed this time is an important part of CNOOC's deepwater equipment strategy. Its construction will play an important role in accelerating the exploration and development of deep-water oil and gas resources. It has been listed in the national long-term science and technology development plan, and its key technology research has been included in the national 863 high-tech development plan.
It is understood that the construction of the mission is the China Shipbuilding Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. The company is the backbone enterprise of China's shipbuilding industry. The platform is expected to be completed in 2011 and will be operational in deep waters of the South China Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, and West Africa after completion.
