Volvo's first hydrostatic drive sweeper equipped with Allison transmission This single-engine truck road sweeper is based on a Volvo FL 250 4 x 2 chassis with a Johnston VS651 twin body. The model is equipped with a 7.7-liter Euro 6 diesel engine with a power of 188kW (252hp) and a torque of 969Nm. It is equipped with an Allison 3200 transmission. The combination of Allison transmission and hydrostatic drive unit allows the sweeper's driving mode and work mode to work perfectly together.

In the driving mode, the Allison transmission can achieve a speed of 80km/h. The perfect integration of gearbox automatic control and hydrostatic drive enables stepless variable speed control in working mode. This control system and device are used in power transmission to ensure the smooth transfer of direct power transmission and indirect transmission.
For the sweeping operation, the hydrostatic transmission switches to operating mode and the two-stage working drive allows fast stepless speed control from 0 to 40 km/h and infinitely variable speed from 0.1 to 16 km/h in sweep mode control. Hydraulic drives for turbines, pumps and brushes are completed by hydraulic pumps, which are mounted on hydrostatic transmissions.

Due to the short wheelbase of 3350mm, the road sweeper is very flexible, which provides considerable advantages for street sweeping in a narrow inner city.
The car also has the advantages of fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. The Allison 3200 model gearbox uses a unique fuel economy technology to automatically select the best shift point based on operating conditions and road conditions. In addition, the effective coordination between the Allison 3200 transmission and the hydrostatic unit eliminates the need for a second internal combustion engine, reducing emissions and noise. And because single-engine trucks are lighter, they can withstand even greater waste loads.
The Allison Transmission achieves precise vehicle control and maneuverability. The Allison Transmission uses a hydrodynamic torque converter to replace the traditional dry clutch, which smoothly multiplies the engine torque during starting and acceleration. Allison automatic transmissions provide seamless, uninterrupted power shifts to increase average speed, productivity and driver comfort. In addition, manual gearboxes or AMT gearboxes need to be periodically stopped to change clutches, compared to less time and cost for Allison transmissions.
New car to Berlin Stadtreinigung
After the exhibition, the vehicle will be delivered to Berlin Stadtreinigung (BSR) for a one-year test in June 2018. The capital Berlin cleans roads, sidewalks and public places 24 hours a day, which is equivalent to about 1.33 million kilometers of road mileage in Berlin each year. At the same time, BSR collected nearly 55,000 tons of road waste and disposed of it safely and with high quality. The clearing of 21,500 waste paper bins and the cleaning of 210,000 ditches is also part of the service provided by Stadtreinigung in Berlin.
