Recently, Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Machinery and Engine Co., Ltd. (MHI-MME) has achieved the record of the 50th propeller modification unit delivered since 2013.

MHI-MME has been producing propellers in Japan since 1904 and continues to produce and develop high-performance propellers. After more than 100 years, the number of propellers has exceeded 5,000.
It is reported that the propeller modification is mainly designed to meet the needs of limiting engine load and reducing speed navigation. Applying a suitable low-speed design can greatly improve fuel efficiency. In addition, MHI-MME has also used this design for propeller modification, Mitsubishi Advanced Propeller (MAP) Mark-W. Launched in 2010, this type of paddle improves propeller efficiency without sacrificing cavitation margin.
MHI-MME supplies modified propellers primarily for large container ships that need to reduce their speed to improve efficiency and can also be retrofitted to LNG carriers and tankers. It not only serves Japanese shipowners, but also serves international shipowners outside Japan. After the propeller modification is completed, the MHI-MME will also evaluate the propeller efficiency to ensure that the efficiency of the retrofit will increase by approximately 8% to the engine load limit.
When retrofitting, MHI-MME will also repurchase the existing installed propellers on the customer's ship, which will reduce the upfront investment. At the same time, if the customer ship is parked at the Chinese shipyard, MHI-MME China's marine propeller license manufacturer Changzhou Zhonghai Ship Propeller Co., Ltd. will repurchase the existing installed propeller on board.
