On August 25, a series of severe thunderstorms swept through Glenview, with lightning striking a home on Midway Lane, prompting a significant emergency response. Larry Shapiro captured dramatic images of the scene, showing firefighters working at the location. The heavy smoke upon arrival led to an escalation in the response, with units from Morton Grove, Niles, Northfield, and Wilmette joining Glenview crews to tackle what was classified as a working fire.
Morton Grove's Quint 4 was already en route when the call came in. Instead of returning to their station to pick up Squad 4, they were directed straight to the scene. Additionally, Ambulance 4 arrived to increase the crew size to five, ensuring adequate manpower for the operation.
The photos, taken by Larry Shapiro, show firefighters in action, including one team venting the roof of the house, another group working at the scene, and several fire engines, including a Pierce aerial ladder truck and a Pierce Dash CF engine. An E-ONE eMax fire engine and other apparatus were also seen on site. One image captures the silhouette of a firefighter against the backdrop of the fire.
