Autodesk, a leading software company, and STRABAG, a major European construction service provider, have signed a letter of intent to strengthen their collaboration in the digital transformation of the construction industry across Europe. The partnership aims to advance the development of BIM (Building Information Modeling) software tailored for the unique needs of the European market.
The agreement highlights a shared vision to enhance efficiency through the integration of BIM technology into both construction and logistics processes. By combining STRABAG’s extensive on-site experience with Autodesk’s expertise in design and manufacturing, the two companies aim to create more practical and innovative solutions that can be tested and refined within real-world projects.
Klemens Haselsteiner, newly appointed member of STRABAG SE’s Management Board for Digitalisation, emphasized the importance of this collaboration: “For years, we’ve valued our partnership with Autodesk in the development of BIM software. As a leader in the construction sector, we are committed to driving digitization forward in Europe, particularly through the advancement of BIM applications focused on construction and logistics.â€
As part of the initiative, the companies are conducting joint workshops to address key challenges and opportunities in the construction industry. The first series is focusing on infrastructure, an area where STRABAG has significant experience. With over 2,500 bridges needing renovation or adaptation in Germany alone, the demand for advanced planning tools like BIM is growing rapidly. Public tenders now require BIM as a planning basis starting from 2020, making this partnership even more relevant.
Andrew Anagnost, CEO of Autodesk, added, “Europe, especially the German-speaking region, is a crucial market for us. We’re excited to work alongside a company like STRABAG, which brings both the expertise and vision needed to lead the way in digital construction.â€
Beyond traditional BIM implementation, the collaboration will also explore pre-construction phases, including modular and off-site design. This approach leverages STRABAG’s field experience and Autodesk’s background in manufacturing to improve efficiency and accuracy in early project stages.
