Autodesk, a leading software company in the design and construction industry, has entered into a letter of intent with STRABAG, a major European construction service provider. This collaboration aims to accelerate the digital transformation within the construction sector across Europe. The partnership focuses on the joint development of BIM (Building Information Modeling) software tailored for the specific needs of the European market.
The agreement highlights a shared vision to enhance the use of BIM in both construction and logistics processes. By combining STRABAG’s extensive field experience with Autodesk’s advanced technological capabilities, the two companies seek to create more practical and efficient software solutions. These will be tested and refined through real-world applications in ongoing construction projects.
STRABAG’s new Digitalisation Board member, Klemens Haselsteiner, emphasized the importance of this partnership: “For years, we have valued our collaboration with Autodesk in developing BIM software. As a leader in construction, we are committed to driving digital innovation in the industry. Advancing BIM, especially for construction and logistics, is a key goal.â€
As part of the initiative, Autodesk and STRABAG are conducting a series of joint workshops. The first session focused on infrastructure, an area where STRABAG has significant expertise. With over 2,500 bridges needing renovation or adaptation in Germany alone, the demand for advanced planning tools like BIM is growing. Public-sector tenders now require BIM as a standard planning basis, further underscoring its importance.
Andrew Anagnost, CEO of Autodesk, added, “Europe, particularly the German-speaking region, is a crucial market for us. We are excited to work with STRABAG, a company that brings both expertise and a clear vision for the future of construction.â€
Beyond traditional BIM implementation, the collaboration also explores pre-construction phases, such as modular and off-site design. STRABAG’s on-site experience paired with Autodesk’s manufacturing and design expertise offers a unique opportunity to optimize early-stage project planning.
This partnership not only strengthens the relationship between two industry leaders but also sets a new benchmark for digital innovation in construction. Through continuous collaboration and real-world testing, Autodesk and STRABAG are paving the way for a more efficient, sustainable, and technologically advanced construction industry in Europe.
