Foton Motor fully enhances its ability to sell clothes in Africa

Recently, the Foton Motor Overseas Division organized the "Futian Auto Angola Customer Symposium" in Luanda, the capital of Angola. This marked a significant milestone as it was the first time Chinese automakers held a customer-focused event in the country. By engaging directly with local users, Foton Motor gained deeper insights into how their products perform in the Angolan market and identified specific customer needs. This interaction not only strengthened the bond between the company and its consumers but also helped Foton build a more customer-centric approach. Moreover, this initiative enhanced the image of Chinese automotive brands abroad and set a positive example for other Chinese companies looking to expand in Africa. Since diplomatic ties between China and Angola were established, the African nation has become one of China’s key trade partners. It is now emerging as a promising hub for Chinese auto exports. In 2005, Foton Motor secured a major government contract, exporting 250 heavy trucks in a single batch—the highest volume at that time. This made Foton the first Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturer to enter the Angolan market. With reliable quality and strong performance, Foton has built long-term partnerships with the Angolan government and holds a significant share of the public sector market. Additionally, through extensive efforts in local distribution, the company has also attracted a large base of private customers. As a result, Foton Motor's market presence in Angola far exceeds that of most other Chinese automakers. Despite the vast potential of the Angolan and broader African markets, many Chinese car companies still rely on traditional export methods, resulting in small volumes and limited scale. Many lack robust after-sales service systems, which negatively impacts the reputation of Chinese vehicles in this lucrative region. From a long-term perspective, a solid after-sales support network is essential for success in overseas markets. Recognizing this, Foton Motor introduced the concept of "service creating value," aiming to turn customer service into a unique competitive edge. The Angolan government and media gave considerable attention to the symposium. Major local outlets like Angola National Radio and TV covered the event, boosting the visibility and credibility of Chinese automotive products in the region. According to an official from Foton Motor's Overseas Division, the company plans to use Angola as a strategic base to enhance its after-sales capabilities across Africa. As a leader in China's auto industry, Foton's efforts are expected to inspire the entire sector to improve its service standards in the region. Looking ahead, Foton Motor aims to export 200,000 vehicles globally by 2010, accounting for about 25% of total sales. A substantial portion of these will target the African market, supported by a well-established after-sales service system that ensures sustainable growth.
