From 2005 to 2011, the growth rate of global machine tool patent applications was 5.67%, while the growth rate of China's machine tool patents reached 34.71%, which was much higher than the growth rate of global machine tool patents; from 2005 to 2011, the growth rate of Chinese machine tool invention patents was 25.79%. The same rapid growth has been shown. In 2011, the number of patents in China's machine tool industry was 29,309, of which 11,482 were invention patents.

Although the average annual growth rate of China's machine tool invention patents has reached 25.79%, the proportion of invention patents to patents has decreased year by year. In 2006, the number of Chinese machine tool invention patents accounted for 53.71% of the total number of patents. By 2011, the proportion of invention patents to total patents had dropped to 39.18%.

It is understood that patents are divided into invention patents, utility model patents and design patents, of which inventions have the highest degree of creativity, and their audits are also the most rigorous. It can be seen that at present, patents in the field of machine tools in China have grown rapidly, but the patent quality is not high. In China, the annual growth rate of the number of applications for the machine tool industry exceeds 30%, indicating that the Chinese machine tool industry's adoption of imported technologies has been absorbed and developed independently, and the industrial technology has developed rapidly; however, many products such as integrated and key components are still subject to foreign companies. China still has a lot of deficiencies in the core areas and high-end areas of machine tools, and the technical level needs to be further improved.
