House fire in Buffalo Grove, 4-6-18

On Friday, April 6, 2018, around 6:30 AM, the Buffalo Grove police and fire departments responded to a house fire at 643 Hickory Drive. Upon arrival, officers reported light smoke and flames in a second-floor rear bedroom, with all residents safely outside. Arlington Heights Engine 4 was the first fire unit on scene, having just returned from a medical call when they received the dispatch. Buffalo Grove Chief 400 also arrived shortly after, confirming the initial assessment from the police. An interior attack was quickly launched, and the incident was upgraded to a Code 4 working fire. Firefighters worked swiftly and managed to bring the flames under control within 10 minutes. The response involved multiple units, including Arlington Heights Engine 4, Buffalo Grove Engine 400, 408, Tower 25, Engine 26, Quint 27, Ambulance 25, Squad 26, and Battalion 4. Additional support came from Palatine Engine 82, Prospect Heights Engine 9, a Barrington ambulance, Long Grove 5500, and Battalion 55. Photos from the scene captured the efforts of firefighters as they tackled the blaze, including pulling pre-connected hoses, venting windows with pike poles, and connecting to a hydrant. The images, taken by Larry Shapiro, provide a visual record of the quick and coordinated response that helped prevent further damage. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
