On February 13, Great Wall Motor Co., Ltd. and Wenzhou Global Automotive Liner officially signed a joint venture agreement in Baoding, marking a significant step in their collaboration. The partnership led to the establishment of Baoding Global Automotive Parts Co., Ltd., a new entity that represents Great Wall Motor's first major project following its listing on the Hong Kong stock exchange. This initiative is also a key component of Baoding’s broader vision to become a leading light-automobile city in North China. The newly formed company has a registered capital of 10 million yuan, with Great Wall Motor holding a 51% stake. According to Wei Jianjun, Chairman of Great Wall Motor, the new venture will not only supply parts for Great Wall’s own vehicles but also actively seek opportunities in broader markets such as Beijing and Tianjin. This strategic move reflects the evolving trends in the automotive industry, aiming to streamline the supply chain, reduce costs, enhance product quality, and strengthen market competitiveness. Great Wall Motor, China's largest private automaker, is a leader in the pickup truck and budget SUV segments. Following its successful H-share listing in December 2023, the company has expanded its scale and attracted attention from both domestic and international investors. Many top automotive manufacturers have expressed interest in collaborating with Great Wall Motor. Wenzhou Global is a well-established auto parts supplier in China, known for producing interior and exterior trim components, including sound insulation pads, hoods, and roofs. The company holds advanced technology and management expertise, and currently supplies parts to five major Chinese automakers: Shanghai Volkswagen, Shanghai GM, FAW-Volkswagen, Wuhan Shenlong, and Guangzhou Honda. Zhang Xingjun, Chairman of Wenzhou Global, expressed high expectations for the collaboration, calling Great Wall Motor one of the most promising and powerful players in the industry. He noted that Great Wall Motor has shown strong potential since it began producing parts two years ago. The direct joint venture is expected to expand the product range and drive innovation, especially in automotive electronics. With Baoding as its base, the partnership aims to reach surrounding regions and unlock new growth opportunities. It is also reported that other renowned auto parts companies, such as Shanghai Yanfeng, FAW Harness, and others, are planning to establish joint ventures with Great Wall Motor in Baoding. These collaborations are expected to significantly enhance Great Wall Motor’s competitive edge, improve product quality, and boost R&D capabilities. At the same time, they will contribute to the development of Baoding as a key center for light automobiles in North China.
