On February 13, Great Wall Motor Co., Ltd. and Wenzhou Global Automotive Liner held a joint venture signing ceremony in Baoding, marking a significant step in their collaboration. The two companies established Baoding Global Automotive Parts Co., Ltd., with Great Wall Motor holding a 51% stake. This partnership is the first major project following Great Wall Motor’s successful listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, and it plays a key role in Baoding’s initiative to become a light-automobile city in North China. With a registered capital of 10 million yuan, the new company aims not only to support Great Wall Motor but also to expand into broader markets such as Beijing and Tianjin. According to Chairman Wei Jianjun of Great Wall Motor, this cooperation model reflects the evolving trends in the automotive industry. It helps shorten the supply chain, reduce production costs, improve product quality, and strengthen market competitiveness. Great Wall Motor, China's largest private automaker, leads in the pickup truck and economy SUV sectors. After its H-share listing last December, the company has gained greater scale and attracted widespread attention from both domestic and international investors. Many top automakers have approached Great Wall for potential collaborations. Wenzhou Global is a well-established auto parts supplier in China, known for manufacturing interior and exterior trim components, including sound insulation pads, hoods, and roofs. The company has advanced technology and management expertise, and it currently supplies parts to five major manufacturers: Shanghai Volkswagen, SAIC GM, FAW-Volkswagen, Wuhan Shenlong, and Guangzhou Honda. Zhang Xingjun, chairman of Wenzhou Global, expressed high expectations for the partnership. He noted that Great Wall Motor is one of the most powerful and promising players in the automotive industry. Since Great Wall started producing parts two years ago, he has been optimistic about its growth potential. The direct joint venture will help expand the product range, including new areas like automotive electronics. Based in Baoding, the collaboration will serve as a hub, radiating outward to drive regional development. It is also expected that other renowned auto parts companies, such as Shanghai Yanfeng and FAW Harness, will follow suit by setting up joint ventures with Great Wall Motor in the future. This strategic move is expected to significantly enhance Great Wall Motor’s competitive edge, improve product quality, and boost R&D capabilities. At the same time, it will play a crucial role in supporting Baoding’s vision of becoming a leading center for light automobiles in North China.
