After Roewe 550's hot sales and product lines gradually improved, Roewe brand achieved its first profit in 2009, and behind the increase in economic efficiency was the increase in Roewe brand recognition. Different from the medium and low-end SUV routes that most domestic brands use, the Roewe W5 is positioned in mid- to high-end SUVs, and its pre-sale price of RMB 170,000 to RMB 300,000 surpasses all independent brands.

From the core power configuration point of view, Roewe W5 provides two kinds of power: Kavachi 1.8T ultra-high pressure all-aluminum turbocharged engine and 3.2L Tornado XGI high-performance engine. The former is a core engine owned by SAIC obtained through the acquisition of Rover and has been equipped with Roewe 750, Roewe 550 and MG6. The latter is a Mercedes-Benz engine originally imported from Germany. In terms of transmissions, the SH78 five-speed manual transmission independently developed by SAIC Motor and the two 6-speed and 5-speed Tiptronic transponders from Europe are also matched to the two engines. .

However, in the NLE R&D project of SAIC's large-displacement engine, gasoline engines of five displacements, including 2.0L, 2.0T, 2.4L, 3.0L, and 3.6L, will be put into production at the Pukou site in the next two years. SAIC SUV conspiracy

In the four years of W5 R&D, the domestic SUV market continued to grow rapidly. In 2010, the domestic SUV market sold a total of 1.326 million units, an increase of 101.27% year-on-year, which was 68% higher than the average growth rate of passenger vehicles. It is the fastest growing segment of the passenger vehicle market. This also makes SAIC more clearly aware of the market opportunities that have been missed and missed.

Due to the rapid growth of this market segment, in the first half of this year, most of the independent brands invariably announced that they would launch the first SUV model. Before and after May 1st, many new SUV models, including BYD S6 and Lifan X60, were assembled.

However, the current domestic auto brand models are still concentrated in the 80,000 to 150,000 yuan range, and it is still more than sufficient for the segment of more than 15 million yuan.

From this perspective, Roewe W5 has joined the competition in the mainstream market of joint venture SUVs by opening up new areas for its own brand SUVs.
