A fire broke out in the third-floor laundry room of a six-unit apartment building at 285 E. Court of Shorewood in Vernon Hills on Tuesday evening, prompting Countryside firefighters to respond. Chief 4100 was the first on scene and reported smoke coming from the top floor. As the situation escalated, the alarm was upgraded to a working fire and then to a MABAS Box Alarm to bring in more resources. Mundelein Engine 432 arrived quickly, with crews already laying lines in front of the building.
The fire caused significant damage, rendering the entire building uninhabitable. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. A female police officer and her service dog were safely evacuated from the area. Local photographers captured the scene, showing thick smoke pouring from the balcony and the emergency response efforts underway.
Photos from the incident include images of the burning building, the responding engine, and the aftermath. A video of the event is also available for viewing. Residents are being relocated while investigators determine the cause of the fire. The community remains on alert as the cleanup and investigation continue.
