Foreigners in China: French Boys' Life in China

In the recent years, the French boy David used the word “闯” to describe his 8 years of life in China: serving as a waiter in Chengdu, studying Chinese in Kunming, going to Hong Kong to perform a model, going to Beijing for a job, and becoming a family in Chongqing. The bar owner is also part-time doing other things in his spare time. There is no slow pace in the French.

David was born in Brest, France, and he worked in an unknown university psychology department. In 2004, the economic crisis began to take shape in France. Even a "washing dish" job requires academic qualifications and professionalism. David turned his eyes to the rapidly developing China.

“Confucius, Bruce Lee, the mystery of Chinese culture and Chinese martial arts attracted me.” David, who first arrived in China, chose Chengdu, the “Land of Abundance,” but his language was his obstacle. When the waiter had accumulated a sum of money, he went to Kunming to learn Chinese and martial arts.

The joy of learning quickly ends in shyness. When his renminbi was running low, David went to Beijing to apply for a job. Unfortunately, he failed to do so. He took a try and looked at Hong Kong to find a job.

With a strong, muscular body, a big nose, and a warm smile, David set up a mock-up model in the fashion city of Hong Kong. "Unfortunately, it failed. I also feel that I am not suitable for a model."

In 2008, he came to the mountain city of Chongqing. “On the first night of Chongqing, I was in the light of the cement forest. The hilly slopes with different heights and 3D effects made me feel a sense of participation in this city.” When memories first arrived in Chongqing, David was still in his eyes. There is a surprise.

Traveling through many places in China has enabled David to practice an authentic Mandarin, and the capital for job search is getting richer. He worked as an English teacher and worked as a waiter at a five-star hotel's western restaurant. He later discovered the colorful “graffiti street” in Huangfuping, Chongqing. This street is exactly the name of the 501 art base in Beijing's 798 Art District.

David found a basement bar in the 501 Art Base. He took out his savings and went down with his Chinese friends. The reporter walked through the dimly-lit bar aisle and the flags of the European Cup's participating countries hung in the bar. The infamous “European Cup” almost made the bar full overnight. He likes to invite friends to gather in the bar to watch movies, talk about film reviews, and talk about dreams. He also works part-time as an art consultant in an advertising company.

“Getting this bar is a good time, a geographical advantage, a human relationship, and I believe in fate. This is how China's eight-year life taught me the truth.” David smiled and told reporters that he still had many dreams and wanted to continue to “keep” in China.
