It’s time to act decisively. Today marks the launch of our 2015 Sustainability in Action report, which is our seventh annual sustainability update. But as businesses, we need to do more than just track steady progress. We must push for transformative change.
That’s why today, we’re making a bold commitment: to power our entire business with 100% renewable energy.
This decision isn’t just about numbers—it’s about recognizing the urgency of the moment. I truly believe that 2015 will be remembered as the year when individuals, companies, investors, and governments came together to confront climate change head-on. Climate change is the defining issue of our time, one that touches every corner of our planet and demands collaboration across industries and borders. By committing to 100% renewable energy, we’re taking a concrete step toward accelerating collective action this year.
Let me explain why this matters so deeply. As a company, we’ve made significant strides over the past year. We launched several groundbreaking sustainability solutions for sectors like building design, infrastructure planning, and advanced manufacturing. We expanded our Cleantech Partner Program into China, one of the fastest-growing markets for clean technology. We even established the Autodesk Foundation, a pioneering initiative dedicated to funding organizations using design to address some of the world’s biggest challenges.
On top of that, we achieved our 19th LEED certification, ensuring that nearly a third of our office space meets these rigorous standards. Since 2009, we’ve reduced our greenhouse gas emissions by 27%, staying on track with our ambitious science-based targets.
Yet every milestone inspires us to aim higher. Just like setting meaningful GHG reduction goals, committing to 100% renewable energy requires careful thought and leadership. We’ll continue working with environmental experts and industry partners to ensure that our efforts benefit both people and the planet.
This December, world leaders will convene in Paris for COP21, aiming to finalize a global climate agreement that charts a path toward a low-carbon future. Nonprofits and businesses alike are uniting under shared values, advocating for a transition away from fossil fuels. We’re proud to join RE100, a global coalition led by The Climate Group, as part of our ongoing commitment to推动 corporate climate action ahead of COP21.
We’re also inspired by the progress happening at the local level. In California, where we’re headquartered, cities like San Francisco are leading the charge in promoting sustainable solutions. Later this month, when the city hosts the 83rd annual U.S. Conference of Mayors, we hope to collaborate with leaders worldwide to create smarter, greener cities. Our commitment to 100% renewable energy aligns perfectly with San Francisco’s ambitious goals for reducing carbon emissions and fostering resilience.
Finally, we’re grateful to partner with our customers, who are redefining what’s possible through innovation. From WindPax’s affordable energy solutions in developing regions to QBotix’s cutting-edge solar tracking systems, the design revolution is already transforming industries.
The future of sustainability is about creating within the boundaries of our planet’s resources. This is our mission, and it’s why we’re committed to powering our operations entirely with renewable energy. Join us in this journey.
