Lakemoor apartment fire goes to 3 alarms

The Fox Lake Fire Department responded to a serious fire at an apartment building located on the 500 block of Autumn Boulevard in Lakemoor around 11 p.m. last night. Arriving just four minutes after the initial call, firefighters found flames already spreading through the roof of the three-story, lightweight construction building. Shortly after their arrival, the structure collapsed, adding urgency and danger to the situation. This incident was classified as a 3-11 for tankers and a Box Alarm due to the structural collapse, with at least 19 fire departments from the surrounding area responding. The scene was heavily staffed, featuring multiple tower ladders, handlines, and ground-level master streams. The response included units from Fox Lake, McHenry Township, Wauconda, and Round Lake, among others. Several notable apparatus were seen on the scene. Countryside and Grayslake both deployed their new equipment, while several engines and squads were equipped with advanced lighting systems like Nightscan or Command Light towers. One particularly striking moment involved the Fox Lake Tower Ladder (Spartan/3D/Nova Quintech) extending its articulating jib over the building, showcasing the versatility of modern firefighting technology. McHenry Township had four units on scene, including an engine, tower, tanker, and squad. Round Lake sent three units—engine, tower, and tanker—while Lake Villa brought an engine, tanker, and ambulance. Grayslake had an engine and tanker, and Lake Bluff’s engine made the longest trip of any unit that night. Images from the fire show the intense effort by all involved. Antioch's American LaFrance/Alexis engine was seen using a Nightscan light tower to illuminate the area, while the Fox Lake squad featured two powerful light towers. Countryside’s new US Tanker was already in action, and Round Lake’s engine was using a Command Light to light up the porta-tanks. Of the 19 departments present, ChicagoAreaFire.com currently lists the following: Buffalo Grove, Cary, Countryside, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Lake Villa, Libertyville, Long Grove, McHenry Township, Mundelein, Newport Township, and Wauconda. Some departments, including Antioch, Barrington, Fox Lake, Grayslake, Nunda Rural, and Round Lake, are not yet listed on the site.
