This message is from Mike Lopina:
Just got back from handling a fire while I was nearby. The incident happened at 322 North Fairfax Avenue in Romeoville. It was a single-story wood-frame structure, measuring 25 by 35 feet built directly on a concrete slab. We deployed two lines from Engine 21 for firefighting efforts. In total, the responding units included Engines 21, 22, and 23, Ambulances 21 and 23, Battalion 21, and Chief 2101. Additionally, Lockport Engine and Northwest Homer Ambulance were on the General Alarm. Plainfield Ambulance and Lemont Engine provided coverage as mutual aid. Lockport Engine 3 had Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) duties, while Northwest Homer Ambulance handled rehabilitation services. Lockport Battalion 1 was assigned as Safety Officer. Thankfully, all occupants managed to evacuate safely before our arrival.

The first image gives an overview of the building involved in the incident. As you can see, it's a relatively small structure but clearly well-established within the neighborhood. From what I observed, the fire seemed to be concentrated around the rear portion of the house.
In the second photo, you'll notice Engine 21 positioned close to the affected area. Our team worked quickly to contain the flames before they could spread further.
The third picture highlights some of the equipment brought in to support the operation. It’s always reassuring to have such robust resources available when needed most.
Here’s another angle showing the progression of the firefighting efforts. You can really appreciate how coordinated everyone was under pressure—communication is key!
This next shot captures the aftermath once the immediate danger had been neutralized. While there was significant damage, it could have been far worse without swift action.
Another view of the scene reveals just how intense things became. Smoke filled the air, making visibility challenging for a time. However, our guys stayed focused throughout.
Finally, this last image shows the solidarity among responders as we wrapped up operations. It’s moments like these that remind me why being part of this profession means so much—it’s not just about putting out fires; it’s about protecting lives and communities together.
Overall, it was a successful outcome thanks to everyone’s hard work and dedication. Let’s hope no one sustained serious injuries during the evacuation process either!
