BorgWarner Provides Turbocharger for Daimler's First Euro 6-Card Engine

On March 9, 2012, BorgWarner provided the B-Series turbocharger for the new Mercedes-Benz 12.8-liter six-cylinder inline blue performance engine. This engine is the first of its kind to reach the upcoming Euro 6 VI) Emission Standard Engine. Based on the new Daimler heavy-duty engine range designed specifically for the European market, this turbocharged engine sets a new benchmark for low emissions, improved fuel economy and improved driving performance. This powerful engine has a power output of 310 kW (421 hp) to 375 kW (510 hp) and can be used on commercial vehicles and off-road vehicles. In order to meet the growing demand in the US market, BorgWarner also provided turbochargers for Dalem's EPA 10-compatible engines for Freightliner commercial trucks.

Peter Kohler, president and general manager of BorgWarner Turbo Systems Commercial Diesel Products, said: “The new blue performance engine is the result of the successful cooperation between Daimler Trucks and BorgWarner. We are willing to use years of experience in turbocharged technology. To help the success of this outstanding engine, commercial and off-road vehicle drivers all over the world will benefit from improved performance, improved fuel economy and reduced emissions.”

In order to meet Dalem’s requirements for system strength and durability, BorgWarner's latest B-Series turbocharger is equipped with an asymmetric dual-flow turbine housing, even in heavy vehicles as well as in road or off-road vehicles. The work environment can also improve efficiency, provide high durability and excellent sealing. Compared to dual-flow-rate turbochargers with the same size of dual flow channels, the asymmetric double-flow turbine casing includes two different-sized flow passages, which can provide exhaust passages separately, so as to achieve high exhaust gas recirculation efficiency and effectively reduce nitrogen oxidation. Emissions. The small flow path achieves exhaust gas recirculation through the higher back pressure formed in front of the turbine. The large runner uses the exhaust energy to achieve the best efficiency without being affected by the exhaust gas recirculation, providing higher turbine power. This combination can provide optimum engine sensitivity and help the engine meet international emission standards while improving fuel economy and performance.
