Garage fire in Crystal Lake 11-22-12

A house fire broke out at a Crystal Lake home on Thanksgiving Day, caused by a deep fryer. According to the Northwest Herald, the incident occurred around noon on Thursday when Jon Ring was prepping for his Thanksgiving meal by warming up a deep fryer in the garage of his home at 707 Windsor Drive. Kim Ring, Jon’s wife, recalled the moment she noticed the smoke. "It was windy outside, and I came outside and smelled the smoke. I knew it was the garage, so I ran in and told everyone, 'The garage is on fire. Get out!'" She added that Jon had been deep-frying turkeys for 15 years, but this was the first time something like this happened. The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department estimated the damage to be around $80,000 due to heat, smoke, and water.
