Garage fire in Crystal Lake 11-22-12

A house fire broke out in Crystal Lake on Thanksgiving Day, and it was sparked by a deep fryer. According to the Northwest Herald, the incident occurred around noon on Thursday when Jon Ring was prepping for his family’s Thanksgiving dinner at his home on Windsor Drive. The garage suffered heavy damage after the fire started while he was warming up the deep fryer. Kim Ring, Jon’s wife, described the situation. “I came outside and smelled smoke. I knew it was the garage, so I ran in and told everyone, ‘The garage is on fire—get out!’” she said. Kim added that Jon had been deep-frying turkeys for 15 years, but this was the first time something like this happened. The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department estimated the damage to be around $80,000 due to heat, smoke, and water. Fire departments from McHenry Township and Woodstock also responded to the call.
