High angle rescue in Deerfield

The Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District received a call around 1:30 PM today about a window washer who was stuck near the top of a seven-story building at 520 Lake-Cook Road. As soon as the call came in, multiple fire companies were dispatched to support the local units. When the first responders arrived, they found the worker hanging upside down, approximately six feet below the roofline. The situation was quickly deemed critical, and additional technical rescue teams were called in. Deerfield Truck 20 swiftly positioned itself close to the building and extended its aerial ladder to reach the victim. Firefighters climbed the ladder and successfully freed the worker from the harness, bringing him to safety without any injuries reported. The entire operation took just minutes, showcasing the quick response and skill of the firefighters involved. Several photos have been shared by witnesses on the scene, but none show the worker before the rescue. However, two images are now available. The first shows the window washer, looking relatively unharmed, speaking with a police officer. The second image captures the worker being helped into an ambulance for a routine check-up. Both photos were taken by Larry Shapiro. More images are expected to be uploaded shortly, so be sure to check back for updates. This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by workers at height and the importance of rapid emergency response. No serious injuries were reported, and the worker is said to be in good condition.
