The Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District responded to an emergency call around 1:30 PM today, when a window washer was reported stuck near the top of a seven-story building at 520 Lake-Cook Road. As soon as the call came in, multiple fire companies were dispatched to support the local units. The first arriving team found the worker hanging upside down, approximately six feet below the roofline. Recognizing the severity of the situation, the incident was escalated to bring in specialized technical rescue crews.
Deerfield Truck 20 quickly positioned itself close to the building and extended its aerial ladder to reach the victim. Firefighters climbed the ladder and safely extracted the worker from the rigging, bringing him down to safety. The entire operation took just minutes, showcasing the quick response and skill of the firefighters.
Several witnesses captured images from different angles, but none of them show the worker before the rescue. However, we do have photos taken after the incident. One image shows the window washer, visibly shaken but otherwise unharmed, speaking with a police officer. Another photo shows the worker being helped into an ambulance for a routine medical check-up.
We will update this post once more images are received. Stay tuned for further details as they become available.
