The Lake and McHenry County Sonar Team was called out again on Wednesday. This time, they were asked to help locate a firearm that had been tossed into the Des Plaines River near Route 176. Swift water divers were sent into the river but couldn’t find the weapon. They plan to continue their search today, hoping to make progress with better visibility or conditions.

Libertyville firefighters were assisting in a North Chicago police investigation by searching for a gun in the Des Plaines River on Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.

The Daily Herald reported that:
North Chicago police asked the Libertyville fire department’s dive team to help find the weapon, which was allegedly used in a nonfatal shooting last week. Fire officials said the suspect is in custody, but police want to examine the gun to see if it was involved in other incidents.
