Oak Park is making great progress in preparing for the arrival of its two new HME Ahrens Fox fire engines, which are expected to arrive by mid-October. These state-of-the-art units are built on HME 1871 chassis and feature powerful 3,000-watt command lights mounted on the roof of the cabs—making them a huge asset for fire photographers during nighttime operations. Each engine will be equipped with a 1,500-GPM pump, 500 gallons of water, along with 20 gallons of Class A foam and 30 gallons of Class B foam, ensuring they're well-prepared for a wide range of fire scenarios.
Ron Kobyleski, Oak Park’s Battalion Chief, has shared several in-progress photos that give a glimpse into the construction process. One image shows the officer's side of the body module, ready to be mounted onto the chassis. Another photo highlights the pump panel, offering a detailed look at the engine's internal systems. The cab and chassis are also visible in one of the images, showing the vehicle in an early stage of assembly.
Additional shots reveal the rear of a body module and a close-up of the extended chrome front bumper, showcasing the attention to detail and modern design of these new apparatuses. With these upgrades, Oak Park Fire Department is taking another step forward in enhancing its emergency response capabilities.
